Episode 301: Sweet relief as Argentina scramble out of their World Cup group

For the three hundred and first episode of Hand Of Pod, Sam and Andrés are celebrating after Argentina’s last-gasp 2-1 win over Nigeria saw them through Group D of the 2018 World Cup in second place behind Croatia, and into a second round tie against France. Were the players really picking the team? Was Javier Mascherano awful or amazing? Is Marcos Rojo the greatest footballer of all time? All these questions and more are up for consideration.

Episode 153: Running the rule over Rojo and Fernández, an excellent showing from River and more

Sam, Peter and Andrés begin Hand Of Pod 153 with a look at two of the biggest Argentine moves in the European transfer window so far – World Cup star Marcos Rojo’s move from Sporting to Manchester United, and World Cup flop Federico Fernández’s transfer from Napoli to Swansea City. We ask how much the World Cup really told us about both players’ levels. We then look back on the second weekend of Primera División action, which saw a superb performance from River Plate, a comfortable 2-0 win for Racing over newly-crowned champions of South America San Lorenzo, and an undeserved but potentially morale-boosting victory for Boca Juniors away to Belgrano, as well as a rollicking five-goal thriller between Banfield and Defensa y Justicia, two of the promoted sides. Enjoy.

Episode 37: Argentina’s mixed World Cup qualifying start, and a River Plate update

In the thirty-seventh episode of Hand Of Pod, Sam, English Dan and Seba discuss Argentina’s mixed start to World Cup qualifying, which began with a 4-1 thrashing of Chile and continued with a surprise defeat at the hands of Venezuela. What positives can Argentina take from the former, and what lessons can Sabella learn from the latter? As well as that, we give an update on the Copa Argentina – whose qualifying stage has now finished – and, with no Primera action to look back on due to the international break, Sam reviews a brilliant couple of matches for River Plate in the Nacional B, including a 7-1 win. Oh, and we fill in for Aussie Dan by reading out his predictions in dreadful Australian accents at the end.
