Episode 367: Seeing out 2019

In the final episode of 2019, Sam, English Dan, Andrés and Tony look back on the last few games of the year, which tidied up a couple of the Superliga matches postponed from earlier rounds, and decided a couple of trophies of varying importance.

Episode 363: No one at the top wants to win, and looking forward to Argentina v Brazil

In this week’s Hand Of Pod, Sam and Andrés look back on a weekend of Superliga action which saw all of the top four drop points (Boca Juniors were the only ones to even draw), ensuring a tight title race has got even tighter due to wins for a few of the chasing pack. We also consider the Copa Argentina semi-finals, one of which was played during and one of which was played after this recording (the final will pit Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero against River Plate), and look forward to Friday’s friendly between Argentina and Brazil, which is being played as I upload this episode.

Episode 350: Panamerican Games success and Daniele De Rossi’s Boca debut

Three hundred and fifty! How did we get this far? In this week’s Hand Of Pod, Sam, English Dan and Andrés look back on silver for the women and gold for the boys representing Argentina in the Panamerican Games football tournaments, and consider the narrative of Daniele De Rossi scoring on his Boca Juniors debut and then watching from the bench, having been subbed, as his teammates went out of the Copa Argentina in a shootout against Almagro.

Episode 311: A quietly successful mini tour for the national team, and a Copa Argentina roundup

In the three hundred and eleventh episode of Hand Of Pod, Sam and Andrés give a quick roundup of the Copa Argentina, before taking a deep dive into the lukewarm pool of the national team, whose two clean sheets against Guatemala and Colombia – with two different goalkeepers! – were arguably the brightest thing about their first two games under caretaker manager Lionel Scaloni.

Episode 304: Getting into our cups

The three hundred and fourth episode of Hand Of Pod sees Sam and Andrés catching up with what’s been going on in the Copa Argentina, which has seen a number of shocks this year but notably not in Independiente’s or River Plate’s matches since we last recorded – those two scored fifteen goals between them in seeing off Central Ballester and Central Norte respectively. There’s also a look at the round of 32 of the Copa Sudamericana, which is well underway (indeed, for Lanús it’s finished) and listeners’ questions ranging from the national team to Argentines abroad to the structure of the Superliga and the mysterious Copa de la Superliga.

Episode 277: Independiente win the Sudamericana, Boca end the year top of the table

The final episode of Hand Of Pod in 2017 brings together Sam, English Dan, Andrés and Peter to discuss Independiente’s entertaining run to the Copa Sudamericana title, after they beat Flamengo 4-2 on aggregate in an enthralling final which saw its second leg in the Maracanã on Wednesday night. Why they deserved the title, and how Ariel Holan has turned the team around are among the topics for discussion. Will Holan stay? How good is Ezequiel Barco? These questions are also considered. We also have a look at the Superliga weekend which saw Rosario Central beat Newell’s Old Boys in the clásico rosarino, and Boca Juniors claim a win which ensures they end 2017 top of the league. Oh, and River Plate won the Copa Argentina! It’s a lot to cover, and this is an extended episode as a result. Enjoy.

Episode 276: Boca keep their noses ahead, and two upcoming cup finals

The two hundred and seventy-sixth episode of Hand Of Pod sees Andrés join Sam to look back on a weekend of Superliga action which saw yet another disappointing showing from River Plate, while Atlético Tucumán got an encouraging win ahead of their trip to Mendoza to play River in the Copa Argentina final on Saturday. Boca Juniors got back to winning way to keep their noses in front of San Lorenzo in the title race, and Defensa y Justicia won a five-goal thriller against Godoy Cruz. As well as all this, we’ve another continental final to look forward to, with Independiente preparing to take on Flamengo in the Copa Sudamericana showpiece, whose first leg is in Avellaneda on Wednesday night.
