Episode 319: Where next for River and Boca?

In the final HOP episode of 2018, Sam, English Dan, Andrés and Tony look back on River Plate’s Club World Cup semi-final failure, before taking a look at what lies ahead for River and defeated Copa Libertadores finalists Boca Juniors in the summer break. We also discuss the 2019 Copa Libertadores group stage draw, and the first round of the Copa Sudamericana. Merry Christmas or the holiday greeting of your choice to all our listeners, and we’ll see you again in 2019!

Episode 210: River’s Club World Cup campaign, AFA elections, playoff results and more

The two hundred and tenth episode of Hand Of Pod sees Sam, Andrés and Gustavo meet for a post-Hannukah (and pre-Christmas) podcast roundup of the last month in Argentine football, starting with River Plate’s runners-up spot in the Club World Cup – and some alternative ideas for a format which could produce a more equitable tournament – and then looking back at the Argentine FA’s hilarious/disastrous attempt to elect a new president earlier this month. We then give an overview of the final playoff results for the Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana qualification places, and have a quick look at Tuesday’s Libertadores group stage draw. Merry Christmas to all our listeners, and you’ll hear from us again in 2016! Episode 170: ¡Racing campeón! and a report from Morocco on San Lorenzo’s Club World Cup semi-final

The hundred and seventieth episode of Hand Of Pod is our last of 2014, and we leave on an unexpected note: Racing Club managed not to racinguear on Sunday, and are the new champions of Argentina. Sam and Andrés, River Plate fans, are for once outnumbered by Racing fans; English Dan, Ilan and the prodigal son of Hand Of Pod, Seba García. We discuss Racing’s fine end-of-championship form to lift the trophy, and where the side go from here. We also have a special appearance from Marrakesh by San Lorenzo fan Mariano, who’s travelled to watch his team at the Club World Cup; what did he make of the semi-final extra time win over Auckland City, and what does he expect for Saturday’s final against Real Madrid? You’ll have to listen to find out. The 2015 Primera fixture list has already been released, too, and we discuss that and look back on a memorable 2014 for Argentine football, which has seen Argentine clubs win both South American club cups, a highly entertaining championship all round during the second half of the year, and the small matter of the national side reaching the World Cup final. Good luck to San Lorenzo on Saturday, and may 2015 be every bit as memorable. Merry Christmas (or happy celebration of your choice) to our listeners, and we’ll be back in the new year!

Episode 44: Our first ever interview, Boca on the brink and Racing finally lose

The forty-fourth episode of Hand Of Pod sees Sam, Dan, Dan and Seba discussing the reasons for Boca Juniors’ title win, which will almost definitely happen this coming weekend since their win at Godoy Cruz took them nine points clear with nine to play for. Leandro ‘Vegetable’ Somoza is praised, Cristian Chávez and Pablo Mouche are criticised. Elsewhere, there was an entertaining match involving Racing, for a change, and they finally lost, 3-2 at home to Belgrano. Seba Verón scored possibly his last goal as Estudiantes beat Arsenal 2-1, and we praise Tigre for their great campaign so far. We also have a Hand Of Pod first – an interview with Emiliano Tade, a forward playing for Auckland City FC in New Zealand, who’ll be one of six Argentines featuring in the Club World Cup in Japan, which starts next week. Enjoy.
